In 2018, Paraguay obtained certification from PAHO/WHO for the interruption of intra-household vector transmission of Chagas disease. Currently, the National Malaria Eradication Service (SENEPA), the lead agency of the National Program for the Control of Chagas Disease, develops comprehensive and intersectoral strategies to prevent mortality, reduce morbidity and socio-economic losses. Their work is also oriented towards advancing in the interruption of vertical and transfusion transmission of Chagas disease. s2c2w

Paraguay’s participation in the CUIDA Chagas Project represents an important contribution to science and the commitment to public health in the country.

The project will be implemented in 5 districts: Caacupé (Cordillera), Paraguarí (Paraguarí), Villa Elisa (Central), Mariscal Estigarribia (Boquerón) and Concepción (Concepción). Primary Health Care (PHC) will be the central focus of interventions, integrating the project’s interventions with existing initiatives most relevant to each local context.
